OUR LAND

The total surface area in contrada Giddio, in Naro, is 13 hectares, seven of which are planted with Nero d'Avola and Syrah, almost four with Grillo and the remainder with Chardonnay.

The vineyards are located at an altitude of between 300 and 400 metres above sea level. There is also a farmhouse with a structure dating back to the 18th century, about 900 square metres in size. The area also has a lake that occupies about half a hectare, which is used for irrigation.

The winery is located within the route of the Wine and Food Trail of the Valley of the Temples, in that area devoted to the cultivation of Nero d'Avola and Grillo.

LAND

Situated on a hillside, about 450 metres above sea level and about 18 kilometres from the sea, the calcareous/clayey soil, rich in water veins that flow into the artificial lake, provides an excellent balance between sapidity and acidity, the right ingredients for quality wines.

CLIMATE

The warm climate with good temperature fluctuations are ideal conditions under which we grow our vines, which enjoy the right conditions for obtaining high-quality grapes.

VINEYARDS

The estate covers about 13 hectares and features the following varietals: Nero d'Avola, Syrah, Grillo and Chardonnay.

RETURN
TO THE FUTURE

Return to the future means that, by going back to environmentally friendly farming, we are taking a big step forward for the future of our children and our land. The enhancement of rural Sicily, where people still live respecting the environment, time and humanity. With this mission, Baglio Bonsignore was founded in 2016, a company that focuses exclusively on organic and natural products.

The Agro di Naro, near the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, is an inland area of Sicily where time has stood still, where the air is still clean, where the sandstone, clay and limestone soils challenge those who cultivate them but provide noble, precious and unique raw materials. At 450 metres above sea level, our farm covers 13 hectares, 10 of which are planted with vines.

Baglio Bonsignore is our return to humankind and to mother earth, our rediscovery of the time of self and the time of being, the time of passion, the time of family. This is the place where we have chosen to welcome our guests, offering them a journey through the vineyards, linked to the traditions of Sicilian cuisine, culture and nature. And it is also here that we have chosen to raise our children, our passion, our company. This is our little corner of paradise where we cultivate dreams and opportunities.

Vineyard work is limited to ensure a good supply of organic matter to the soil, supplemented by the planting of legumes and green manure in spring.

Treatments are also limited and, in addition to the use of sulphur, we experiment with natural organic products to contain pathogenic fungi. To limit the development of pests, we use the biotechnological method of pheromones.

We remain consistent with our mission, which is why we ask our suppliers to share this philosophy.

Our capsules are made with Derma, the exclusive material for the production of capsules, a high-tech polylaminate that combines excellent performance with reduced environmental impact.

A product that guarantees clean production processes, reduced waste and stability over time, to list just a few of the advantages offered by this material, which is glue-free for component assembly.

-9.76% of gCO2eq per capsule produced.

Our corks are also eco-friendly - they are made of natural cork. "Completely natural, reusable and recyclable, cork is perfectly in line with the environmental awareness of contemporary society" (from Corticeira Amorim, which pursues an exemplary economic activity in terms of sustainable development).

By promoting cork harvesting on a cyclical basis, without damaging trees, the company ensures that the cork oak forest is a viable, renewable and natural resource with innumerable environmental, economic and social benefits. Cork oak forests are natural CO2 sinks, regulate the hydrological cycle, protect against erosion and fire, and promote a level of biodiversity comparable to regions such as the Amazon, Borneo and the African savannah. Cork harvesting maintains the vitality of the forests themselves and supports the associated economic, environmental and social development, enabling thousands of people to continue living and working in arid and semi-arid areas. This three-dimensional contribution allows cork to stand out as one of the most sustainable raw materials in the world.

Certificate awarded to Baglio Bonsignore in 2020 for its contribution to reducing the release of CO2 into the atmosphere.
