Participating in a competition like WineHunter and seeing all three of our wines win awards fills us with pride and pushes us forward.

There have been many errors, and we have committed ourselves to many things, but we are on the right track and will continue to steer our course in our vineyard and elsewhere.

We would like to thank our oenologist Tonino Guzzo, who supports and endures us, Debora Greco, who with her commitment and sacrifice, is the driving force of our company, and we would like to give a special thanks to our collaborators.

We are proud to have received a certificate from Amorim Cork, a leading manufacturer of cork stoppers, stating that the purchases we have made over the last 12 months for our bottles have made a significant contribution to reducing the release of CO2 into the atmosphere.

The certificate was issued on the basis of a serious and independent study conducted by a consultancy and auditing firm. This study, comparing different types of closures, validated the important and positive role of cork in the containment of greenhouse gases.

Baglio Bonsignore, always attentive to the protection of the environment, has chosen cork stoppers for its wines since the beginning of its activity, fully convinced of what is now officially recognised.

This is a beautiful story, a fairytale, where the protagonists are wine and love, as well as Debora and Luigi Bonsignore who, with their three splendid children, Simone, Pietro and Carlo, make up the picture of this Agrigento enterprise. The winery is located in Naro, in the Giddio district. There are 13 hectares, seven of which are planted with Nero d'Avola, Syrah, about four with Grillo and the remaining part will be planted with Chardonnay.

This is where Baglio Bonsignore is located, a winery and an ambitious project that will see the construction of an accommodation facility next year to promote wine tourism.

Cubburo, a blend of Nero d'Avola and Syrah, is the wine that represents the beginning of their oenological story. Two souls, one native and the other international, which together make a wine of great pleasure and easy drinking. The name is a dedication to an ancient stone construction from the Sicilian era, the Cubburo. The colour is ruby red with purple highlights. Intense aromas elegantly invade the nose with a dominance that veers towards notes of red fruits and balsamic notes. In short, it is a well-balanced wine that highlights the characteristics of both Nero d'Avola and Syrah in its own identity and the well-defined blend. Because of its profile, Cubburo pairs well with dishes based on local ingredients, such as broad bean macco with ricotta and bottarga.

If you could only use one word for this winery it would undoubtedly be "love". Love in all its forms because you can breathe it in the air, in the relationship with the owners and, of course, in the wine. This is the story of Baglio Bonsignore, the winery in Naro created by Luigi Bonsignore and Debora Greco, a couple in life and work. Three sons, Simone, Pietro and Carlo, and a dream: to produce wines that symbolise the territory. The story began a few years ago, in 2016, when the two fell in love with this estate.

The total surface area, in the Giddio district, is 13 hectares, seven of which are planted to Nero d'Avola and Syrah, almost four to Grillo and the remainder to be planted to Chardonnay. The vineyards are located at an altitude of between 300 and 400 metres above sea level. Half a hectare of the estate is occupied by a lake, used for irrigation. The Bonsignore project, however, is much more far-reaching and aims at wine tourism, to once again seal the link with their place of origin. A relais with six rooms, a wine-tasting room open all year round, a restaurant and the wine cellar, which will be inside an ancient stone building, will be inaugurated next Easter.

The king of wines is Nero d'Avola, whose debut for the company took place three years ago, with Cubburo, blended with 30 percent Syrah. Then there is also the pure version, a Syrah and a Grillo, also pure.

Oi, Sicilian for today, is the Grillo Doc Sicilia. Oi is also a metaphor for time that flees and is precious. But there is no hurry inside this wine, vintage 2018, which has a straw yellow colour with some greenish reflections. Its aromas are very delicate with notes of citrus emerging and alternating with notes of exotic fruit. On the palate there is a pleasant return of these notes and, right from the first sip, it is the freshness that takes the lion's share, making it ready for tasting and for pairing with preparations characterised above all by a sweet tendency.

And here is one of the most successful combinations with one of the dishes at the trattoria Caico in San Leone, tuna caponata, where the extreme freshness of the wine creates a nice interplay with the texture of the tuna.
