Debora and Luigi have combined their skills. She has been involved in the family winery for years, while he is the company manager in a common project that is based on tradition while looking to the future. A near future, considering that all three children have always been exposed to the vineyards' air, they all know the land and, above all, are witnesses to their parents' commitment and sacrifices.
After a short rental period in which the existing vineyard was taken over, the company's purchase was formalised in June 2016.
The first harvest, handmade in boxes, gave a yield of 40 quintals per hectare, and allowed us to obtain our first label, Il Cubburo 2016, a blend of Nero d'Avola and Syrah barrelled for almost 12 months in French barriques. During the same harvest, we started converting to organic methods.
Restructuring of the 18th-century building is well underway and at the end of the process, the barrel cellar, tasting room and six de luxe hospitality rooms will be completed.
Three years into the conversion period, organic certification was obtained.
The total surface area in contrada Giddio, in Naro, is 13 hectares, seven of which are planted with Nero d'Avola and Syrah, almost four with Grillo and the remainder with Chardonnay.
The vineyards are located at an altitude of between 300 and 400 metres above sea level. There is also a farmhouse with a structure dating back to the 18th century, about 900 square metres in size. The area also has a lake that occupies about half a hectare, which is used for irrigation.
The winery is located within the route of the Wine and Food Trail of the Valley of the Temples, in that area devoted to the cultivation of Nero d'Avola and Grillo.
